# Trim (Start)

| Purpose     | To return a string after removing any leading white space characters from the specified string.                               |
| Description | Removes any leading white spaces from the string argument. Whitespaces include space, new line, tab, and linefeed characters. |

| Parameters  | str \[System.String] – String which will be trimmed                                                                           |

**Example**

In this example, we are passing the required parameters to the function transformation object using a *Variables* object.

Where,

*str*: ABC

Right-click on the function transformation object and select *Preview Output.* You can see that Astera Data Stack has returned a string value, with trimmed leading whitespace characters.
